TheLEGENDDelta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, on Sunday assured that governance in the state will remain on track despite the build-up to the 2027 general elections, stating that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has put in place firm measures to prevent political activities from disrupting service delivery.
Aniagwu made this known while speaking on The Morning Show on Arise TV, where he explained that the directive requiring appointees seeking elective offices to resign is aimed at ensuring fairness, eliminating undue advantage, and keeping governance fully on course.
According to him, the governor has directed all political appointees intending to contest elective positions in 2027 to resign in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, noting that the law clearly stipulates timelines for public office holders seeking elective positions.
He explained that the directive is designed to ensure fairness and prevent undue advantage, stressing that allowing appointees to remain in office while contesting elections could lead to abuse of office, access to state resources, and structural advantages over other aspirants.
Aniagwu said, “The law is very clear. If you are holding an appointive position and intend to contest, you must step aside. It creates a level playing field and avoids a situation where someone uses the privileges of office to gain undue advantage over others.”
He further noted that beyond fairness, the directive would eliminate distractions in governance, as officials would be able to focus fully on their responsibilities without being divided between public service and political ambition.
“Contesting while in office can be a major distraction. Instead of concentrating on governance, such individuals may abandon their duties to pursue campaigns. That is why the law requires them to step down,” he added.
The commissioner also highlighted that Governor Oborevwori remains committed to governance regardless of political developments, pointing out that even during campaign periods, project execution and commissioning would continue unhindered.
“He has made it clear that even on days when campaigns are scheduled, he will first attend to governance by commissioning or inspecting projects before proceeding to political activities. Governance will not suffer in Delta on account of politics,” Aniagwu said.
He revealed that the state recently approved over N400 billion worth of capital projects, many of which are already being processed and awarded, with contractors receiving up to 40 percent mobilization to ensure timely execution.
Aniagwu added that several projects have been lined up for commissioning as the administration approaches its 3rd anniversary, demonstrating the administration’s commitment to development.
On internal party dynamics following the state’s political realignment, the commissioner said the governor has ensured inclusiveness and fairness among stakeholders, fostering unity and stability within the political structure.
He explained that the transparent conduct of ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses helped build confidence and maintain peace among party members.
Aniagwu maintained that Governor Oborevwori’s leadership style, particularly his emphasis on prudent resource management and project delivery, has positioned Delta as one of Nigeria’s most stable and financially responsible states.
“Governor Oborevwori walks the talk. With the structures and processes already in place, governance will continue seamlessly, and Deltans will keep enjoying the dividends of democracy regardless of political activities,” he said.

TheLEGENDDelta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has congratulated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the occasion of his 74th birth anniversary, commending his leadership and far-reaching economic reforms.
The congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, in which Governor Oborevwori extolled the President’s bold economic policies.
He said: “On behalf of my family, the government and the people of Delta State, I heartily congratulate His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on the occasion of his 74th birth anniversary".
He noted that the reforms of President Tinubu had significantly increased revenue accruing to states and local governments, thereby enabling subnational governments to undertake critical infrastructure projects and improve service delivery for citizens.
“Your bold and pragmatic economic reforms have not only repositioned the nation’s fiscal landscape but have also empowered states and local governments with increased resources to drive meaningful development and deliver democratic dividends to our people,” he added.
Governor Oborevwori described President Tinubu as a visionary leader whose commitment to repositioning Nigeria’s economy is yielding tangible results.
He stated that the administration’s fiscal and economic initiatives were laying a strong foundation for sustainable growth and national development.
Governor Oborevwori said: “Your leadership, courage, and unwavering commitment to national progress continue to inspire confidence in the future of our country. The difficult but necessary decisions you have taken are already paving the way for long-term prosperity.
“We in Delta State remain fully committed to supporting your administration and working in synergy with the Federal Government to advance policies and programmes that will uplift our people and strengthen our nation,” he stated.
Oborevwori prayed for good health, wisdom, and renewed strength for President Tinubu as he continues to steer the affairs of the nation, expressing confidence that Nigeria would witness greater progress under his leadership.
“Your Excellency, as you celebrate this milestone, I pray that Almighty God grants you continued good health, divine wisdom, and the strength to lead Nigeria to greater heights,” he said.

TheLEGEND In recognition of his unwavering commitment and support, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori was presented with a souvenir by members of the Welfare Sub-Committee of the APC National Convention. The gesture served as a token of appreciation for his contributions toward the smooth planning and successful hosting of the convention.
His support and dedication played a significant role in ensuring that the event was well-organized and impactful, reflecting a strong spirit of collaboration and leadership that helped drive the convention’s overall success.

Speaking to journalists during the convention held at Eagle Square, Abuja, on Friday night, the governor said his decision to join the APC in April 2025 was already yielding positive results for Delta State.
Oborevwori noted that his defection to the ruling party was driven by the need to align Delta State with the federal government, a move he said has enhanced access to resources and improved governance outcomes.
“I’m happy to be here today. That bold decision we took on April 28, 2025, is manifesting today. I was the first Governor after 2023 election to move into APC, that was done because we wanted to connect with the centre and we have connected to the centre. Other state Governors have also emulated me in the decision we took", he said.
According to him, increased revenue allocation to states has improved their capacity to meet key obligations, including payment of salaries and execution of projects.
Oborevwori said: "We are happy with that decision we took because the policies and programmes of Mr President are working. But you know, it takes time. We know the sufferings of Nigerians, the policies are yielding; it's a gradual process.
"You know before now, the money that was coming to states was not much, paying salaries was difficult. These days, we can pay salaries, we can pay our contractors. A lot of things are working for us.
"I will tell you, if Mr President is not doing well, my other brother Governors will not come and join. As we speak today, we are 31 Governors in APC. No political party has gotten 31 Governors since 1999. This is the first time.
"The crowd you are seeing here today, shows that Mr President is focused, he is bold and he is taking us somewhere. We believe that Nigerians we pay back by reelecting him in 2027.
On his administration’s achievements, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy to the people of Delta State, particularly in critical sectors.
“In infrastructure, we are doing well. In health and education, we are doing well. In security, we are making progress,” he said.
He also highlighted improvements in oil production, noting that there were no more incidents of attacks on oil facilities in the state, leading to increased output.
“Delta State remains number one in oil production, and we are going to do more for our people,” he added.
Oborevwori urged Deltans and residents of the state to continue support the President Bola Tinubu’s administration and his administration, assuring them that both the federal and state governments are committed to improving their welfare.
