The Director General of Warri, Uvwie and Environs Special Area Devt Agency, WUEDA, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere says China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, CCECC, will complete the 3rd Phase of the flood control project in Warri South and Uvwie LGAs within 24 months.
Prince Ejinyere said this on Wed. 24th July 2024 when he led his team on official visits to the Ovie of Uvwie, Abe 1, and the newly sworn-in Chairman of Uvwie Local Govt, Hon. Chief Anthony Onoriode Ofoni, adding that any structure erected on the right of way of natural waterways would be pulled down after being valued and duly compensated for.
In separate speeches at the Palace of Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, and at the Secretariat of Uvwie Local Govt, Prince Ejinyere told the Palace Chiefs, the Management Staff of Uvwie Local Govt, and youth leaders from the host communities that the contract for the 3rd Phase of the storm water drainage project had been approved by Governor Oborevwori, asking the youths not to disturb CCECC, the contracting firm to handle the project.
The WUEDA DG appreciated the Ovie of Uvwie, Abe 1, for his efforts at restoring peace towards the development of the kingdom. He said the visit was to inform the Palace and the Local Council that the 3rd Phase of the flood control project was about to commence in Uvwie LGA, and also to formally introduce the construction firm, CCECC, to the Local Council Chairman, the
Ovie and his Chiefs, expecially Chiefs from Ugborikoko, Ugboroke and others to benefit from the project, in order to foster a good relationship between the firm and the host communities.
He warned that the project must not be stalled by any group in the name of youths restiveness, or the demand for illegal levies from the firm handling the project; and advised that all issues between the CCECC and any of the communities should be directed to him through the Palace for amicable resolution in the interest of all. He promised to ensure that the firm employs the locals where and when necessary, and allows them to supply some construction materials to empower them.
Prince Ejinyere disclosed that Phase 1 of the storm water project handled by Levant Construction was 100% completed, while phase 2 being handled by CCECC, was more than 90% completed. He said Governor Oborevwori awarded Phase 3 of the project to CCECC following its quality job in Phase 2, as well as its high reputation for, and track record in quality job delivery.
He reiterated Nigeria Meteorological Agency, NIMET's warning about intense rainfall in 2024, most expecially in coastal areas including Uvwie LGA, and stressed the need for residents to stop dumping refuse into the drains to avoid flooding with its devastating effects.
The Unuevwhoro of Uvwie Kingdom, Chief Hope Akasa who stood in for the Ovie at the Palace, thanked the Governor for his commitment to the development of Uvwie Kingdom, and Delta State in general. He promised that the Palace would do the needful to support the CCECC to deliver the project in record time but advised the firm to carry the community people along in terms of employment, and execute the project according to specifications.
At the Uvwie Local Govt Secretariat, the Council Chairman, Chief Anthony Ofoni thanked the Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori for such a laudable and massive project in Uvwie LGA, and promised to ensure a hitch-free environment for the firm to execute the project within the stipulated time frame. He commended Prince Godwin Ejinyere for his doggedness in delivering on his mandate as the DG of WUEDA, urging him to sustain the tempo.
The Unuevwhoro of Ogbe Quarters, Chief Roy Oke Grant; his Ugboroke Quarters counterpart, Chief Godwin Ejumi, were among the Palace Chiefs who supported the Unuevwhoro of Uvwie Kingdom, Chief Hope Akasa to receive Prince Ejinyere and his team during the visit at the Palace.
Prince Ejinyere was accompanied on the visit by a member of the WUEDA Board of Directors, Elder Isaac Itobi, and some top Management Staff of the Agency.
